Finland’s cricketing journey hit a major global milestone as national team bowler Mahesh Tambe etched his name in the history books with the fastest five-wicket haul in T20 International (T20I) cricket, achieved in just 8 balls.
The remarkable feat took place in the 3rd T20I against Estonia in Tallinn, where Tambe unleashed a devastating spell of 5 wickets for 19 runs in just 2 overs, helping Finland seal the match and clinch the series 2–1.
This performance broke the previous world record and drew international attention, with media outlets from India to the UK hailing the 40-year-old’s exceptional achievement. But for us at Playbox, this moment carries even more pride, because Mahesh trained right here at our facility in Vetokuja, Vantaa.
From Indoor Nets to International Records
Mahesh has been a regular at Playbox’s state-of-the-art indoor cricket training lanes, where he sharpened his skills in challenging Finnish conditions. As Finland’s first professional indoor cricket centre, Playbox has served as a training ground for both emerging talent and seasoned internationals like Mahesh.
In April 2025, Cricket Finland officially partnered with Playbox, naming us as their year-round indoor training home. This collaboration has already begun to bear fruit, and Mahesh’s record-breaking performance is just one shining example.
